It is a common misconception that the law forces landowners to control ragwort.
It is repeated time and again on many websites including those created by local councils. These people should know better but alas thei r knowledge is often poor.
The facts about ragwort and the law show this is not the case. Under the 1959 Weeds Act it is possible for landowners to be forced to control ragwort by means of an order being placed on them but in the absence of such and order they are under no obligation to control it. It is quite legal, consequently, to have this ecologically valuable plant growing on your land and you are under no automatic obligation to control it.
There is also the Ragwort Control Act 2003 but this only provides for a guide to control being created.
This is only one of a large umber of myths about this plant which have been circulated. In some cases by those who stand to gain financially.
It does not harm people see. Ragwort and humans why there is no risk .
It is also a valuable plant for biodiversity see Ragwort an important plant.
